Review: Foster Child (3/5)

“Foster Child” is a slice of life. This is reality stripped to its core. There are slivers of truth scattered in the long running hours of the film that sparkle like gems amid the bleak Manila setting. In watching films like these, one must learn the virtue of patience – to be patient enough to appreciate the beauty that only subtlety and realism can bring. There is also no room for explanations. Take this film as it is. An exemplification of the “show, don’t tell” principle.

Moreover, Cherry Pie Picache deserves a standing ovation for her honest portrayal of the foster mother role. Her acting is so genuine that acting workshops cannot teach that to non-mothers.

I'm off to Cinemanila tomorrow to watch this film! I hope it turns out well.

I love your comment about Cherry Pie Picache.

Only saw one Cherry Pie Picache flick as of the moment; I think it was "Bikini Open." I'm not even sure if I got the title right. Hehe.

Too bad the screening of "Foster Child" was cancelled yeasterday to give way for "The Band's Visit". It took me a while to appreciate "Foster Child". I disliked it at first because I find the pacing too slow, but it is inevitable not to get hit by the heartfelt story. Hope you get to see it soon.

Wasn't able to watch Foster Child yesterday; I hate the way they keep on re-shuffling the screening schedule.

Was able to view Raya Martin's Next Attraction though; great film!

I agree. A lot of last minute changes. Have you seen "Imburnal"? I need to talk to someone who has seen it. I need enlightenment.

I was supposed to watch Imburnal yesterday, but the lady behind the ticket counter said that it's about 3 hours. Screening time of Imburnal was at 8pm; Next Attraction was at 9.30pm. I chose Next Attraction.

Did I make the right choice? How was Imburnal?

Yes you did. Nothing could top the ridiculousness of "Imburnal".

lolz, lolz, lolz

Next Attraction is rife with long shots too, most especially the first 1.5 hours.

Have you seen it?

I heard god things about it. I should have watched "Next Attraction" or "Carnivore" instead of "Imburnal". The latter is a total waste of time.

Were you at Gateway last Tuesday, around 9pm? Were you able to catch any of the Cinemanila films screening at that time?

I was there last Sunday and Wednesday, but not on Tuesday. I saw "Sita Sings the Blues", "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK", and "The Blind Pig That Wants to Fly" last Wednesday. I missed the screening of "Tsotsi". Too bad. I was late for twenty minutes.

I saw a guy there last Tuesday who looks like you (based on your picture in your Friendster/Multiply account). I almost approached him and asked, "Hey, are you that guy with the Pixelated Popcorn blog?"

Good thing you didn't because I'm quite sure I wasn't on Gateway last Tuesday. Hehe..
